If you’ve gone quiet on Instagram, Facebook, or LinkedIn — not because you gave up, but because life got busy with client work, referrals, and a to-do list that never actually ends — you’re not behind. You’re just dormant. And dormant accounts come back faster than most coaches think, as long as you wake them up in the right order.
Here’s exactly how to do it, week by week.
Week 1: Re-engage before you re-post
Before you post anything, spend a week just showing up in other people’s comment sections — specifically where your actual audience already hangs out.
Find a handful of accounts, pages, or groups your ideal clients follow, and start leaving real comments. Every comment should do one of three things:
- Ask a question — genuine curiosity, not “great post!”
- Add value — a perspective, a resource, or an experience that builds on what they said
- Share an experience — something true and specific, not generic encouragement
This does two things at once: it puts your face back in front of people before you’ve posted a single thing, and it signals to the algorithm that your account is active again — which matters for what comes next.
Redirect your account (Instagram)
Instagram now shows you, directly, what it thinks your account is about — and lets you correct it. Here’s how to check and fix it:
Go to Settings → Content Preferences → Topics You Want to See More Of, and adjust the topics listed there to match what you actually want to be known for. While you’re in there, also update your Category under Edit Profile, since that’s a second signal Instagram uses to classify your account.
Pro tip: before you touch any settings, open your Explore page (or your Facebook feed, or LinkedIn feed) and look at what’s being shown to you. That’s the algorithm’s current best guess at what your account is about. If it’s showing you content miles away from your niche, that’s your sign the redirect is overdue.
Week 2: Start posting stories
Don’t jump straight to content. Stories are your warm-up — and the rawer, the better.
A few ideas that consistently work well here:
- What your morning actually looks like
- A recent client win
- A quick “this or that” — let your audience choose
- Making breakfast, lunch, or a snack
- A quote that made you stop scrolling
Stories rebuild your reach quietly, before your account has to do the harder work of a full post. Think of this week as re-introducing yourself before you ask for anyone’s attention.
Week 3: Start posting content — and test everything
Now that your audience is warming back up, start posting real content: reels, carousels, and single posts, in a mix, specifically to see what performs.
This isn’t guesswork you can skip. Some accounts get significantly more reach from carousels than reels. For others, it’s the reverse. There’s no universal answer — the only way to know what works for your audience is to actually test it, format by format, and let the data tell you.
The long-term mix
Once you’re through the first three weeks, the accounts that keep growing are the ones posting a consistent mix of three things: educational content, personal content, and sales content. Leaning too hard into any one of them is usually where momentum stalls back out.
If showing up on camera comes naturally to you, this part will feel easy. If it doesn’t, that’s common — and worth solving on its own. Check out our post on how to feel natural on camera when you’re selling your coaching or therapy practice. [link placeholder — add once that post is published]
Reviving a dormant account isn’t about posting more, faster. It’s about waking it up in the right order — engage, redirect, warm up, then post — so that by the time you’re asking for attention again, the algorithm and your audience are both already paying it.
You don’t have to do this alone
Reviving an account is doable solo — but it’s also just the first step. The harder part is what comes after: turning that renewed activity into a message that actually converts, an offer that’s positioned correctly, and a system that keeps producing clients on its own.
That’s what The Predictable Client System is built for. We take over everything — from waking up a dead account to building the offer, message, content, and funnel underneath it — so you’re not the one holding the whole thing together every single week.
